We crossed the border into Uganda! It was easy, when you’re in Kenya just drive along Lake Victoria counterclockwise and you can’t miss the border. Our first stop in this country is the old city of Jinja. This is where the locals claim is the mouth of the Nile, the longest river in the world we got to see right where the water goes from Lake Victoria down the river towards Egypt.
Uganda
Nothing like waking up at the lodge to the relaxing sounds of the rapidly flowing Nile river.
Visiting the Royal Palace, of the king of Buganda, there are five kingdoms in Uganda, but this is the biggest one in the center of the country, including the capital. It’s actually the largest traditional kingdom remaining in east Africa. The British were supposed to name this country after this kingdom but like always those Brits misspelled things and called it Uganda instead of Buganda. For Those that like political theory, there’s two parallel government.
For those of you that watched the movie, the King of Scotland, this is where the ruthless dictator Idi Amin tortured and killed his political opponents in the 1970s. It’s estimated 25,000 Ugandan’s died here in the small chamber. It’s actually on the grounds of the kings palace, conveniently located for tourist. Idi Amin had driven the king out of the country in 1966 in a bloody attack on the palace, and was using the palace as a Barricks for his soldiers he got the Israelis to build this for him, telling them it would be an armory, but he then converted it into a torture chamber. In the pictures, you can see hand and foot prints all the way up the wall, because the bodies were stacked so high sometimes.
